- Huh? - are you having trouble low level formatting it, answer then: you
- basically can't low level format an IDE drive, are you having trouble
- installing it, answer then: use HDtoolbox, pass the name of the
- controller-software to it on the commandline, se other posting about
- this right next to this one, are you having trouble DOS-formatting it,
- answer then, well yes - but you have to install it and partition it with
- HD-toolbox first.

- IF the controller is an IDE controller, they may have (had?) several
- versions, including some able to handle both types of drives, then just
- use the software that came with it, and don't bother about say a
- software name suggesting scsi by containing those letters in that
- sequence. Just load it, and it might work. Have you tried booting off of
- the disk that came with the controller, i. e. off of a working copy of
- it? - there is very likely to be some proprietary installations
- softwware on it, that knows all about that controller.
-
- EG> If anyone can help, I

- IF you have tried all of the above, and the installation software that
- came with the controller can't find it ... hmmm. dunno to what extent
- this applies, but I have been playing a bit with a Dataflyer IDE
- controller with proprietary software. That software prefers the
- controller to *not* be auto-loaded by the Amiga, and requires a
- disabling of the controller by holding down left mouse button during
- boot, so that it can do some 'low level' access to the controller
- without being disturbed by AmigaDos .... dunno if this could apply, if
- you don't have a manual for the controller, you probably should start
- looking for someone who has one, and is willing to photocopy it for you.
- Just as with disks that are needed to handle some hardware you have,
- such as harddisk-install disks for your controller, and a kickstart-disk
- for an Amiga 1000 you automatically have a license by owning the
- hardware, so photocopying the manual to you can not, in my understanding
- of this!, constitute a copyright violation.

- Kind regards
